December 2008

It is that time of year again! University of Houston and the United States Air Force Academy will be seeking their first bowl win at Amon G. Carter Stadium December 31 at the Bell Helicopter Armed Forces Bowl (aired live on ESPN starting at 11am CST).

“We are excited about our match up as Houston brings the nation’s No. 2-ranked passing offense to Amon G. Carter Stadium while the Air Force Academy has ranked among the country’s best rushing teams the past 22 seasons,” said Tom Starr, the Executive Director of the Bell Helicopter Armed Forces Bowl. “We expect a lot of offense, but it appears the roles are reversed for this game with Houston a quick-striking offense while Air Force features a ground assault. It should be a high-scoring game.”

Will you be at the game? Look for AAFES! We will be out at the game letting servicemen and women know more about their benefits!

Check out the flyover from last year’s game…oh, how I wish I was going to be there! Of course, I will be cheering for the Air Force!

Meet the Manager is an AAFES program designed with you in mind. It was created to allow open discussion between the customers and the local management about exchange operations. This time can be used to become educated on policies and programs or to address questions. So here are a few tips on how you can get more out of your time spent Meeting the Managers.

  • Come prepared: If you are like me, you will forget something! I’m constantly thinking about what I should’ve said, done or asked. So jotting down your ideas, questions, issues or concerns will help you to not overlook an important detail.
  • Be specific: Don’t just say that you don’t like the merchandise selection. Let the manager know what particular items you would like to see in the store. And if you are concerned with the pricing, tell them what exact item is cheaper and the competition where you saw it instead of just saying that everyone else is cheaper.
  • Don’t be afraid to speak: The managers really need to hear your voice. AAFES values all of our customers’ comments: the good, the bad and the ugly. And not to mention, it is essentially your store. Offer suggestions.
  • Keep an open mind and ears: While we strive to make all customers happy, there are some things that cannot be changed. Certain matters may be out of the local management’s and possibly even HQ’s hands.

Meet Leah Miller

December 29, 2008

First of all, let me say, Happy New Year! Well I guess I’m looking forward to ‘09; either that or I’m just so sick of 2008 that I’m ready for it to be over. This year has been rough for just about everyone I know. We can only hope that the next one will be [...]

So many good movies coming out, so little time to see them all.  If you

I’ve seen in a long time; important because it takes on subjects that
are near [...]

Accepting “change” that makes sense!

December 17, 2008

Did you know that in AAFES contingency operations and most of our overseas stores and facilities we use lightweight, coated disks called POGs instead of coins?
We rely on the Department of Defense to fill most of our transportation needs, which includes shipping us the coinage we need to keep our facilities running. The DoD has [...]

AAFES is truly a melting pot. Never before have I worked amongst such a diverse group of people.
