Welcome

Meet Leah Miller

December 29, 2008

First of all, let me say, Happy New Year! Well I guess I’m looking forward to ‘09; either that or I’m just so sick of 2008 that I’m ready for it to be over. This year has been rough for just about everyone I know. We can only hope that the next one will be better.

Enough about that…Let me tell you a little about me. I’ve worked at AAFES for just over 6 years now and I’ve know Lauren for about 5 1/2 of them.

Although I have previous retail experience, I’ve not had the opportunity to work in an AAFES store. I have been fortunate enough to get a ton of good experience in varying positions and work with many, many great people here. I feel very blessed to work for such an awesome place.

I love helping people. And I like to think that I’m pretty good at it. I think it’s because I realize that small things to me may be very important to someone else. And if you are taking time out of your busy day to address a situation, then it must be important.new year

I look forward to working and interacting with all of you!

Nancy 2 email It is my pleasure to introduce you to my friend and AAFES EXTV Celebrity Spotlight host, Nancy Jay.

Recently, I sat down and asked Nancy a couple of questions about her fabulous job!

ME: What is your most memorable celebrity interview? Why?

NANCY: I’m often asked who has been my most memorable celebrity interview.  That’s a tough one. I’m lucky to have had the chance to chat with the biggest names in show biz – Clint Eastwood, Steven Spielberg, George Clooney, Tom Hanks, Denzel Washington, Julia Roberts, Jennifer Lopez, Reese Witherspoon, Usher, John Legend, Garth Brooks, Faith Hill – the list goes on and on. And honestly? My most memorable is usually my most recent – which would mean Will Smith, Marisa Tomei and Debra Messing (interviewed them all this past week).  And getting a kiss on the cheek from Will Smith ranks right up there.

ME: When you tell celebrities you represent the Army & Air Force Exchange Service versus a major television or radio station/program, what is the celebrity’s reaction?

NANCY: When celebrities find out my interviews are for EXTV they are so excited. They love knowing it’s for our troops and their families. And it always transcends any political leanings:   Susan Sarandon giving an emotional shout out and God speed, Chris Cooper crying as he expressed his thanks, Anne Hathaway blowing a kiss.  My favorite is from Aaron Eckhardt when I interviewed him about “The Dark Knight.”  Because he knew this was for the troops, he constructed his answers specifically for the military and how our troops can relate to good vs. evil (in Gotham City and the Middle East). Truly brilliant on his part.

Periodically, Nancy will ask you (here on this blog) what she should ask celebrities when they visit our AAFES studio or when she visits them on the red carpet! So, stay tuned…

Now for our very first Celebrity Spotlight Friday Feature, meet the cast of The Dark Knight, available on DVD at your nearest AAFES BX/PX Power Zone 9 December, 2008!
