The Army & Air Force Exchange Service (AAFES) has been watching the corporate blogosphere evolve with various brands talking with real voices in conversations with their customers. We are excited to be able to take a more active role in the military community and hope we can contribute at least as much as we learn. The AAFES: Salute To Your Service Blog is not a “corporate” blog, but a blog where AAFES will be celebrating the military family.
Of course, this is still a blog representing AAFES, so you can appreciate there will be limits to what we can say and who we respond to, but our intention is to create a voice that truly represents who we are – a company of individuals who are military, former military, military spouses, and friends and family of military loved ones. We are excited and anxious to hear from you. We truly believe this will help us to become a better brand in servicing the “real” needs of the military community.
Now to introduce myself- I’m Lauren Vargas, your connection to AAFES and blog editor. My journey as an AAFES employee has been incredible because I have the privilege to work in this military community similar to the community I was a part of as a military dependant. And now, I have the opportunity to tell you more about both journeys. I hope you will enjoy the conversation here and be sure to keep watch for contributions from other employees, experts and friends of AAFES.
We consider your feedback an integral part of this conversation, so feel free to share your thoughts on how we could make this blog more useful, more informative and even more engaging for you.
Please keep in mind that AAFES works within a highly regulated industry, which means there are certain topics we will not be able to discuss here. For a full understanding of what we can and can’t discuss, be sure to reference our Rules of Engagement and Terms of Service.

Lauren –
Congratulations on the launch of this website. It’s very exciting and I’m sure the military community will really appreciate the “conversation.”
Thanks for starting this site. As a mom to a solider headed back to Iraq on his second tour, this will be a great source for the military parents.
So excited to see this blog’s creation! Congratulations! Can’t wait to read more!

It is amazing to see AAFES giving even more back to the military community.
As a teenager I really believe you are now going to attrached “more of us” since all we ever do (most of us) is IM, text, or online chat.
You will beable to get a lot of feedback from us in a way that is easy for us.
Congrats to AAFES!

Thank you so much for the warm welcome! All of us at AAFES hope we can strengthen our connection with all of you.
Lauren,
Good to see you and your AAFES team are on the blog net.
Please tell MG Thurgood my regards.

Thank you, Sir. I will do that!
Awesome Lauren! great job! as a veteran, I would like to see AAFES recognize all veteran associates active or retired on a vertern’s wall as we do our deployed associates.
Keep up the great work!
Louisa,
That is an amazing idea. I will push that idea forward.
Congratulations! http://www.aafes.com is a robust resource for information, in addition to providing goods and services to the military community worldwide. Expanding this network to enable the establishment of a social network is commendable. Hope everyone takes full advantage of this opportunity…including the retirees. Best of luck and thanks!
I’m curious as to why AAFES prices are usually more than off base retail. I’ve also noticed that online items are cheaper as well. This includes the sales tax savings of 6%, where I live. An example is a chair that costs 675 from the BX vs. 539 (same brand/model)from a website. What exactly are the benefits of using AFFES?
You know, you are right, in some areas we are not the lowest price. Unfortunately, we cannot buy certain products in as big of volume as our competitors because we sell products and services exclusive to the military community. We may miss the mark sometimes, but we do our best to give you the best possible product at a competitive local price.
